Humpback Whales

WALT- We are learning to write an information report  

Humpback whales are baleen whales. 

Rather then teeth, they have 270 to 400 fringed overlapping plates hanging down from each side of the upper 

Jaw, called Baleen plates.


Humpbacks mostly eat schooling fish like krills, anchovies, cod, sardines, mackerel, capelin and others. They prey to eat. 


Humpback whales live in North Africa, Africa, South Africa, Australia, Asia Europe, and Antarctica Ocean.


When it comes to the environment and the oceans ecosystem, whales  help regulate the flow of food by helping to maintain a stable ensuring that certain animal species do not overpopulate.


The Humpback whale’s most distinctive physical feature are their long pectoral fins. Which average one third of the whales total body length, to more than 5 feet, the longest appendages of any living animal on land or in the sea.


Orca. Transient killer whales prey on marine mammals and one of the humpback whales main predators. They attack calves and younger animals more frequently, and most Humpback whales have scars as a result of prior orca attacks including drag marks on their tails. 



The Humpback whale lives from 45 - 50 years.
